Academic Affairs Funding Request

The Office of Academic Affairs and the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Committee are pleased to support research and creative activities for students to engage in experiential learning opportunities. Funds can cover a variety of opportunities and materials including but not limited to: travel costs to conferences or project sites (preference for travel with the faculty mentor) and material costs directly related to student participation.

Requests will be accepted at any time in the semester; however, competitive applicants should submit their request by September 15th for the fall semester and February 15th for the spring semester. Requests for summer funding will be solicited separately. Students may apply for up to $800 per academic year, although additional support may be available if the demand does not exceed the total budget of $10,000 per semester.

Requests for funding must come from students, but a faculty mentor must be listed in the application.

In order to account for the review time, decisions may take up to three weeks, so plan accordingly. If you are planning to attend a conference and have not received confirmation that an abstract has been accepted, you may go ahead and apply but please list this in your application. Confirmation will be required before funds will be released.

Requests are considered based on need and merit with the following considerations determining overall allotment:

  • Travel metrics
    • i. Presentation/performance vs attendance
    • ii. Conference tier level (local, regional, national, international)
  • Feasibility
    • i. Requested amount vs remaining budget
  • Applicant’s academic standing at the college
  • Previous travel funding requests within the academic year
  • Oversight by faculty mentor

Submission will be considered on a case-by-case basis and as the semester allotment allows. Therefore, students and mentors should not automatically expect to receive the full amount outlined above.

If selected to receive funding, you will be expected to complete the following upon returning from the event.

  1. Photo documentation of attendance
  2. Submission of one page reflection describing how the event impacted your career and educational pursuits.

Both items must be submitted within two weeks of returning to the college to avoid forfeiture of funding.

Please complete the following form to request funding. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
