Overview

Accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, UVA Wise’s software engineering program is the only four-year, undergraduate degree in software engineering offered in Virginia. This major allows students to gain experience while working through a plethora of paid internships. It offers exceptional academics and out-of-class experiences in not only software engineering but cybersecurity. And, many students studying software engineering or computer science at UVA Wise participate in the Lovelace Society, which honors the first programmer, Ava Lovelace, and advances the study of computer science and related areas of study.

Students in this program have earned careers at leading companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Capital One, CGI, and Booz Allen Hamilton. They are also admitted to prestigious graduate schools like the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Carnegie Mellon.

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree who are majoring in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Software Engineering may complete coursework to achieve an additional Concentration in Cybersecurity.
