Ben Mays graduated suma cumma puma with a BA in Performing Arts from Clinch Valley College and received his MFA in Theatrical Design & Production from the University of Louisville. Ben has been recognized for both his artistic and educational contributions. He toured internationally for 12 years with Appalshop’s Roadside Theater and has served as TD/adjunct professor for 7 years at UVA Wise. Ben founded and owns the lighting & sound company, Northstar Productions, and is Resident Sound Designer and Engineer the Pro Art Association. Ben performs in and is co producer of “Life’s Circle” & “Forty Days”, based on stories from Wise County cancer survivors. He is a musician, performs in various stage & film productions, and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Ben still finds time to pick at local Farmer’s Markets with friends, make the annual Run for the Wall in DC, hop on cruise ships (in an effort to avoid cell phones), and offer his wisdom, knowledge, expertise, and handyman skills to his wife, son, daughters, and 3 grandchildren, all of whom adore him immensely.
