Hi! My name is Jess Wells and I am from Norton, Virginia. I am a 2022 alumna of UVA Wise who majored in English. I decided to attend UVA Wise because I wanted to stay in the Appalachian region, and the College was the perfect, most affordable option. With UVA Wise being a smaller college, I knew that was the best fit for me as I really value personal connections and individualized learning.  

My favorite memory as a student had to those Saturday football games while in the Marching Highland Cavalier band. My favorite thing about being an admissions counselor is meeting the new students and their families once they come to campus. I am excited to introduce you to my alma mater! 

Favorite UVA Wise class? Early Shakespeare Plays with Professor Adrian 

Favorite study spot? The study rooms on the sixth floor of the library 

Favorite spot to chill on campus? I really enjoy sitting by the lake on a sunny day.

What are some things UVA Wise students should put on their bucket list?  

1. Meet as many different types of students as you can.  
2. Get involved in any organization.  
3. Explore the outdoors--we have so many beautiful sights and hiking trails in this region! 

Favorite restaurant in the area? El Dorado 

Favorite Town of Wise event? The Fall Fling  

Favorite place to go in the area? Lincoln Road Coffee Shop in Norton. Best coffee along with cool events like open mic nights, concerts, poetry readings, etc.

What do you like to do in your free time? (Hobbies) I love to read, write, play the guitar, and feed the ducks at Wise Reservoir!
