Kendall Rainey was named Director of Athletics at UVA Wise in 2017 after serving as Associate AD and SWA, where she oversaw student-athlete success academically, coordinated the athletic department's community engagement, and advised the college's SAAC. In addition, she has taught freshmen seminar, courses in sport management, and serves on several college committees. She was on the administrative team that transitioned UVA Wise from NAIA to NCAA DII from 2012-2015 and she led the school’s conference transition from the Mountain East to the South Atlantic Conference in 2019-2020. Rainey currently serves on several SAC committees and the NCAA DII Softball Committee.
Prior to NCAA DII athletic administration, Rainey coached volleyball at UVA Wise for three seasons and was the Director of Softball Operations for the Tennessee Lady Vols for three years.
Rainey participated in volleyball and softball at UVA Wise where she was a two time Academic All-American and business administration major, graduating in 2005. She holds a MS in sport management (2007) and a Ph.D. in sport studies (2013) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
