The Barry Goldwater Scholarship
Who may apply? Sophomores and Juniors
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? Yes
For individuals who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. This scholarship will pay for your undergraduate studies up to $7500 per full academic year for up to two years, for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship
Who may apply? Juniors
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? Yes
For individuals committed to a career in government at any level, or careers in uniformed services, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research and/or educational organizations, public or private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations. This scholarship pays for up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school.
Fulbright U.K. Summer Institutes
Who may apply? Freshmen and Sophomores
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? No
These are three- to four-week study abroad programs for students who have no (or very little) travel experience outside the United States. Covers costs for tuition at a United Kingdom university, round-trip airfare, accommodations, and possibly, meals. Must have a 3.7 or higher GPA.
Udall Undergraduate Scholarship
Who may apply? Sophomores and Juniors
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? Yes
For individuals focused on leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to the environment or Native American nations. Awards up to $7,000 to be used toward tuition, fees, books and supplies, and room and board.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Who may apply? Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who receive Pell Grants.
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? Yes
Enables students of limited financial means to study in another country or intern in another country. Awards up to $5,000 (or up to $8,000 for Critical Language Award).
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Who may apply? Seniors or Recent Graduates
UVA Wise nomination/endorsement required? Yes
Provides funding to go abroad to almost any country to do a research project of your own design, pursue a postgraduate degree, or teach English as a second language. Grant amounts vary but include health benefits, a stipend for room and board, and travel.
