Commencement 2020 delayed until May 9, 2021

The Commencement ceremony for the UVA Wise Class of 2020 has been delayed until May 9, 2021 because of the need to limit gatherings across Virginia due to a spike of positive cases throughout the Commonwealth.

The original ceremony was we reset for ‪October 4, 2020‬ when the global pandemic forced the event to be canceled. The ceremony had to be delayed again as the COVID-19 situation continued.

“It became increasingly difficult to find a way to aptly celebrate your graduation with your family and friends under stringent but necessary health and safety measures,” Chancellor Donna Henry said in an email to the Class of 2020. “In hopes that the situation with the pandemic will improve by spring, we plan to hold Commencement for the Class of 2020 ‪on‬ ‪Sunday, May 9, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.‬ in the David J. Prior Center. Our thought is that the ‪May 9‬ Commencement will give your class the full ceremony you richly deserve after many hours, weeks and months of hard work as an undergraduate.”

The Commencement Committee and other College officials will be in touch with the Class of 2020 in coming months with additional details for planning purposes.
