Justyn Colón Rodríguez, a sophomore at UVA Wise was chosen to be Chancellor for a Day for 2025. Colón Rodríguez is a Spanish major with a secondary education minor and plans to be a Spanish teacher when graduating. He is also a Smith scholar at UVA Wise.

Through his unwavering commitment to education and leadership, Larry Greear has left a meaningful legacy in Wise County schools, positively influencing generations of students, educators and the community.

Meet Kandee Wallace, a 2014 alumna who majored in art with a minor in business administration. Today, she is a freelance artist and the owner of Wallace Dance Academy in Coeburn, Virginia.

The Governor’s School program is a two-week residential program that runs June 8-22 for those who have demonstrated significant effort and achievement in the sciences.

UVA Wise has been selected as one of 20 institutions to receive a capacity-building grant that will expand opportunities for experiential learning for students.

Open to students in grades 5-12, Exploring Healthcare Careers will provide attendees with hands-on insight into healthcare career paths, as well as opportunities to meet school recruiters and learn about financial aid and program requirements.

Heather Askea, STREAM Outreach Coordinator for UVA Wise was recently awarded the Leader of the Year Award for 2024 by Virginia Society for Technology and Education.

UVA Wise will support and coordinate the project work. The funding will impact 10 communities throughout Southwest Virginia.

Applications are welcome from projects located in seven counties in Southwest Virginia—Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Tazewell and Wise—as well as the City of Norton.
