On Saturday, March 28, The David J. Prior Convocation Center reached an exciting milestone, welcoming its one-millionth visitor since opening its doors in 2011. The lucky guest was surprised with a swag bag filled with the University of Virginia’s College at Wise merchandise.

Since its inception, the David J. Prior Convocation Center has hosted a variety of events including concerts, graduations, sporting events, community gatherings, gymnastics recitals, educational events and many others making it a cornerstone of engagement in the region.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this achievement with our community,” says Chris Davis, Director of the David J. Prior Convocation Center. “Reaching one million visitors is a testament to the incredible support we’ve received over the years. We look forward to welcoming more as we continue to serve Southwest Virginia.”

The David J. Prior Convocation Center is the first-place students visit when they kick of their academic careers and the last place they visit when they graduate. It also is the home of NCAA Division II UVA Wise volleyball and basketball teams since it opened in September 2011. Named after the late Chancellor David J. Prior, the $30 million, 78,000 square-foot facility serves not only the UVA Wise community but also the surrounding region.

The facility seats 3,000 for sporting events and 3,600 for concerts or other convention activities.
