Constitutional Day Jeopardy Event
Each educational institution that receives Federal funds is required to hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution for its students.
Since this year the College has been faced with challenges related to COVID-19, Brian McKnight and Heather Evans hosted UVA Wise’s first Constitution Day Jeopardy Event last month on Zoom — and had participants from the local community, our college faculty, and a student representative. Judy Abbott, Chuck Slemp, Tom Costa, and Amelia Strouth were the participants. The event was very well attended, and counted as a cultural credit activity.
There were five categories like “Amendments,” “I read it for the articles,” and “Convention.” There was also a final Jeopardy question. Throughout the game, there were video questions sent in by many of our faculty members (Amelia Harris, Anthony Cashio, Christa Moore, Robin Woodard, Tegan Makal, Wally Smith, Andy Cox).
The scores were neck and neck going into final jeopardy. Amelia Strouth, Tom Costa, and Chuck Slemp were pretty much tied for first place! The answer was revealed, the participants wrote down their “questions” — and then none of them were correct! Amelia Strouth ended up betting less than everyone else – and walked away with both bragging rights as our first Constitution Day Jeopardy Champion, and a golden constitution pencil.
