UVA Wise announced today that Jeffrey Baylor, who has successfully led enrollment efforts at institutions across the U.S., will join the College on July 5 as UVA Wise’s next Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management.
Baylor has been serving in the enrollment management field for just over 25 years, first at his undergraduate alma mater, Marietta College in Ohio. From there, Baylor led successful teams in advancing admissions and financial aid strategies and systems at several colleges and universities, most recently at West Texas A&M University.
“I was drawn to UVA Wise because of the College’s reputation of being one of the best public liberal arts colleges in the country. Equally attractive is the College’s location in Southwest Virginia, a beautiful and safe location to learn,” Baylor said.
Baylor shared that he looks forward to getting involved in the community and being accessible to students, knowing firsthand the benefits of a college education from his own residential undergraduate experience.
“I believe that education can change the trajectory of students’ lives and, in many instances, their success shapes the generations that follow,” Baylor adds. “It is my passion to help students reach their full potential and I want to do this with each individual student in mind.”
Baylor was the successful candidate in a national search which yielded a rich pool of candidates. The search team, led by Joe Kiser, vice chancellor for finance and operations, was composed of a broad, cross-campus group. Baylor’s application stood out due to his demonstrated success at several places of previous employment.
At West Texas A&M, Baylor led his team to set a new enrollment record in Fall 2020. He also developed and managed a recruitment plan to sustain long-term enrollment growth and integrated a financial services model to better serve students. Prior to his time in Texas, Baylor led enrollment management teams in Ohio, Florida and South Dakota, among other locations. In addition to his considerable admissions and financial aid experience, Baylor has worked in student affairs and marketing.
“Jeff’s experience will be an asset as we advance our College. I know he will be an example to students, to whom we provide an education that empowers them to serve and lead in their communities, the nation, and the world,” said Donna P. Henry, Chancellor at UVA Wise.
