V-TOP and UVA Wise Partner to Host Internship Summit

The Virginia Talent and Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) and The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise) are partnering to host the SWVA Internship Summit on November 11-12 at the SWVA Cultural Center and Marketplace in Abingdon. The event is free, but registration is required. It is open to employers, students and educational institutions. 

This two-day event will provide information and resources for employers as well as students seeking employment. Experts in mentorship and employers with internship programs will be available to attendees, allowing employers to interact with possible student internship candidates.

"The buzz around work-based learning is picking up momentum, and our region is packed with opportunities. We hope that between the informational sessions and networking connections, the internships take a strong footing in the future plans of employers and students alike,” says Chelsea Justice, V-TOP Coordinator. 

The two-day event will include conversation surrounding relationship building and educational opportunities, networking, as well as testimonials from employers and interns. 

V-TOP connects employers, students, colleges and universities to quality internship programs in the Commonwealth. The partnership provides resources for students to develop their career readiness skills and provides resources to businesses for starting or expanding an internship program. 

Internships and other work-based learning opportunities provide students with valuable hands-on experience, feedback, pay and other benefits. These opportunities often lead to students staying in Virginia upon graduation and strengthening the workforce. V-TOP is committed to expanding the number of paid and credit-bearing internships and other work-based learning opportunities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in partnership with UVA Wise. 

V-TOP is a partnership between the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the Virginia Chamber Foundation, and the Virginia Higher Education Business Council, with funding from the General Assembly.
