UVA Wise Celebrates the 29th Annual Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Program
The 29th Annual Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Program will be held Monday, January 20, 2025.
A community dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the Wise Baptist Church on Spring Street in Wise will kick off the celebration. At 6:30 p.m., those participating in the Candlelight March will line up at the Wise Baptist Church.
The short march will leave Wise Baptist Church, go down to Church Street (behind Thompson and Litton) to Nottingham Ave to Main Street and commence at the Wise Trinity United Methodist Church. (For those who do not wish to walk, vans will be provided for transportation from the Baptist Church to the Methodist Church before and after the program.)
The program will start at 7:00 p.m. at Wise Trinity United Methodist Church on Main Street.
The featured speaker will be Reverend Charles Tinsley from Barbourville, Kentucky. Pastor Tinsley received his early education in the school system of Harlan County, Cumberland, Ky. He continued his education at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, Cumberland, Ky. He is a member of Macedonia Baptist church Cumberland, Ky, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Henry. He was the church treasurer and deacon before his calling into the ministry. Currently, Rev. Tinsley is the Treasurer of the London District Association. He was a former Moderator of the Ministers and Messengers in the association. For the past twenty-five years, Rev. Charles Tinsley is the Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church, Barbourville, Ky.
Musical performances will be by The Williams Brothers, Peter Ryan, The Wise Guys and Jake Ravizee.
