Teams Tee Off for the 30th Annual UVA Wise Spring Swing Golf Tournament

A spirit of camaraderie and competition was in full swing as the 30th Annual University of Virginia’s College at Wise Spring Swing Golf Tournament brought together 20 teams at Lonesome Pine Country Club. Sponsored by Ballad Health and hosted by the College’s Alumni Association, the 2025 tournament celebrated three decades of support for scholarships and student programs.

The beloved tradition drew alumni, community leaders, business partners and golf enthusiasts from across the region, all playing for student success. 

“We are incredibly grateful to our long-time Spring Swing sponsor, Ballad Health, and to all our alumni, friends and corporate partners who participate in the tournament. Their loyalty to UVA Wise is what makes this tournament one that we look forward to each year,” says Valerie Lawson, vice chancellor of advancement and alumni engagement. 

Participants enjoyed a day filled with good-natured competition and meaningful conversations about the impact of their support. Proceeds from the tournament go toward scholarships and vital student support programs, helping to reduce financial barriers and enhance the college experience for students from across the region. 

As UVA Wise continues its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education, events like the Spring Swing Golf Tournament play a crucial role in building a stronger, more connected future for the College and the communities it serves.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the 30th year of the Spring Swing Golf Tournament,” said UVA Wise Chancellor Donna P. Henry. “This event not only strengthens our connection with alumni and the greater Wise community, but it also helps our students thrive. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and to our many sponsors for their generous support.”

Although the winners are ultimately the students, the day ended with many golfers coming out on top. 

Winners:

Spring Swing Championship Flight Winners were Brady Bunch, Tyler Courtney, and Luke Lawson.

Second place winners were Ron Clark, Brian Dotson, Rick Meade and Pug Smith.

Third place winners were Chris Branham, Matt Branham, Gary Pate and Bo Phillips

First Flight first place winners Shayne Barnette, Eric Hughes, Brad Ratliff and Wes Williams.

Second place winners were Ryan Anderson, Kory Bostic, Ritchie Deel and Eric Mondrage.

Third place went to John Brickey, Rick Colley, James Lawson and Mike Owens.

Second Flight first place winners are Rod Colyer, Bruce Hayes, Randy Higgs and Robby Wright.

Second place went to Valeri Colyer, Mike Lily and Bryan Spain.

Third place winners were Gavin Bledsoe, Butch Lambert, Ron Perry and Benny Wampler.
